We in the West (I did certainly), often take for granted African wildlife so it's strange to think that lions, elephants, zebras, rhinos and cheetahs might not be around in the wild for much longer.
The poachers use GPS, air support and automatic weapons to cull thousands of animals. The SAS have even got involved to help stem the bloodshed.
Estimates say that if poaching isn't curbed, African Elephants will be extinct in the wild by 2025. It's weird (and awful) to think that our grandkids might think about elephants in the same way that we think about dodos...Photographer Nick Brandt makes his money (some of his prints make $48,000) snapping the beasts up close, still using film.
